Dear
I hope all is well with you. I notice a lot of synchronicities in my life, but they aren’t always positive. A couple of weeks ago I was cycling along the canal near my home, pondering over an idea for a new book about time, probably called ‘When Seconds Turn into Minutes.’ The book is partly about what I call 'time expansion experiences' which sometimes happen in accidents, or in deep
spiritual experiences, or near-death experiences…As I was thinking about a chapter on time expansion experiences in accidents, I came down a slippy cobbled slope too fast. My bike gave way and I came crashing down on to the ground. I landed in a giant puddle. And I did have a time expansion experience…as well as some bruises and grazes. It couldn’t have been more than half a second or so but felt like several seconds. I felt that I had time to try to position myself, to spread myself out as wide
as possible to minimise the impact. A number of practical thoughts went through my mind, like “I’ll probably have to go home and get changed now, which will mean I’ll miss my train.”
As I was lying on the ground, a passing woman stopped to ask, “Are you alright, love?”
I love it that in my part of the world, people often refer to each other as ‘love.’ It happens a lot when you go to shops or cafes. People say, “Alright, love?" "What can I do for you, love?" "What you having, love?" or "Thanks, love,"
It creates a really positive feeling. I think it's actually short for "my love," and so is an expression of affection. Perhaps there are similar expressions in your part of the
world?
