March Newsletter: A Free On-Line Meditation & A Spring Poem

Published: Mon, 03/16/15

Dear Friend,

A happy spring to you! I hope you can feel the regeneration of the Earth within your being. It’s great to see some insects floating and buzzing through the air, and to see some flowers blossoming in my garden. Hopefully there will many more over the next couple of weeks.

TED talk

A lot of people asked about the video of my TED talk on the ‘Power of Purpose.’ It was finally published a couple of weeks ago:

I enjoyed having the opportunity to put forward my model of purpose, and to present the concept of ‘transpersonal purpose.’ I’m just about to begin a research project at my university, based on the model.
The Calm Center
I’ve been receiving some fantastic cover endorsements for The Calm Center, in the lead up to its publication in May. here’s a few examples:

‘If you open yourself to the transformative power of this book, read it slowly and attentively, then you will find that each piece will work its magic within you and bring about a subtle but distinct shift in your state of consciousness. It will free you from the mental noise of compulsive thinking and raise you into the alert inner stillness that is presence. It will awaken you to the spiritual dimension.’- Eckhart Tolle

“Who can explain the unexplainable? Who can wrap words around the great mystery? Every now and then a book appears that adds beautiful drops to the stream of ineffable wisdom that has flowed through the ages. Steve Taylor’s new book of reflections is such a book. It opens a path to the authentic self.”— Elizabeth Lesser, author of Broken Open and cofounder of Omega Institute

“Transcendent yet grounded, profound yet simple, timeless yet refreshingly new…The Calm Center takes flight and lift us up, up, up beyond ourselves.” — Arjuna Ardagh, author of The Translucent Revolution

“A delightful and inspiring collection of teachings spoken from the heart of one who knows.”— Peter Russell, author of From Science to God

It’s so kind of these authors to give these endorsements -  I’m sometimes asked to do them, and I know that it can be time-consuming to read a book and formulate a comment. It’s especially nice to receive a comment from Peter Russell, as his book The Awakening Earth was one of the first spiritual books I read (about 25 years ago!) and had a big impact on me.

The book will actually be available to buy in April in the US (a little later in the UK). You can order it here for the US, and here for the UK.
Talk at Alternatives
I’m doing a talk at Alternatives in central London on Monday July 6th – I’ll be reading from The Calm Center, discussing some of the book’s themes and leading meditative exercises based on the book. More information see here.
Free On-Line Meditation/Reading on Sunday 29th March
I’m going to be leading a series of free on-line meditations/readings, on the last Sunday of each month. In these sessions, I’ll be reading two or three of the pieces from The Calm Center, discussing them and leading meditations based on them. They will last for around 30 minutes, and take place via a Google Hangout.

The first session will take place on Sunday 29th March, at 8.30 pm GMT, or 3.30 pm EST or 12.30 pm PDT. You will be able to watch the broadcasts live on Google+, although you'll need to have a Google account to watch (they're free). Click here to view and share this event; if you select 'Yes' underneath 'Are you going to watch?' the event will be saved in your list of events, or, if you don't have a Google account, you'll be given instruction on how to create one.

That’s all for this month. I’ll send a reminder about the meditation/reading a few days before it. And in the meantime, here’s a ‘spring poem’ I wrote a few years ago, which will hopefully chime with your feelings over the next week or two:

A Spring Day

It’s one of those spring days
when gardens are flashing and sparkling
like a slow-motion firework display
and streets are scattered with blossom
as if a wedding party has just passed by
and the whole world seems ready to celebrate.

It’s one of those spring days
when the wind blows with an urgency
carrying messages from tree to tree
while the sunlight glints expectantly
and clouds rush across the sky
as if they all know a miracle is imminent.

It’s one of those spring days
when the dark dusty corners of my being
are flushed with freshness and life again
and the awareness arises, from a deep forgotten place,
that all is well, and all will be well, always.

All best wishes and blessings,

Steve
