Dear Friends,
I’m pleased to tell you that my new on-line course is ready to enrol on. The Calm Center Online Course will begin on Sunday 4th October, and run for 5 weeks.
The course includes elements from my earlier book Back to Sanity. It is designed to show you the essential aspects of spiritual awakening, and to guide you through the process of transformation. It will help to cultivate the fleeting moments of harmony that we all experience from time to time, so that they can become our permanent state. The course will include many of my spiritual reflections and meditations, with exercises and
discussions based on them.
What the course includes:
- Each week you'll participate in an interactive live audio and visual presentation.
- During each live session, you will be able to me questions at any point. This means that you never need miss
a point which needs elucidating.
- You will be sent worksheets for each session, and the powerpoint slides of each session in advance.
- You will be given exercises each week to help you to gain access to, and cultivate, a permanent state of inner harmony, to reveal your true nature.
- There will also be a complete recording of the session which you can have access to at any point. These are great for review, since you can skim them quickly to find the point you want. It also means it's no such a problem if you can't be at each 'live' session.
Here is an overview of each session over the five weeks:
Session 1: The Journey of Awakening
Summary of course and its aims: to transcend ego-separateness and heal inner discord. Two main aspects of spiritual development: quietening the mind, and dissolving our psychological attachments. Both of these lead towards awakening, and this course will guide you through both of them. Both of them lead to harmony - and harmony is our essential nature. The first stage
of spiritual development: Dis-identifying yourself from your thoughts and from your story. Transcending the ‘voice inside your head.’ How to negotiate the difficult stage of ‘spiritual opening’ and the other difficulties which can emerge through the process of awakening.
Session 2: Resting in the Present/Quietening the Mind
The importance of stilling and
quietening ‘thought-chatter’; The three states of being; The childhood state of natural mindfulness and presence; Experiencing the world without concepts and labels; ‘Nudging yourself back’ into the present; Conscious attention in everyday life
Session 3: Dissolving our Psychological Attachments
Why does intense psychological turmoil trigger spiritual
awakening? What are psychological attachments, and why do they develop? Which attachments are most important to you? How we can release ourselves from our attachments and touch into our essential nature, and experience its natural wholeness and well-being.
Session 4: Awakening through Facing our own Mortality
Many people experience spiritual awakening as a
result of an encounter with death, either through serious illness or an accident. Why does death have this ‘awakening’ potential? The importance of accepting the reality and inevitability of death, and living our lives in the ‘light’ of death. Through being mindful of death, we become naturally more mindful of life.
Session 5: The Power of Acceptance
The transformation power of ‘letting go’ and accepting predicaments - how this enables loss and turmoil to transform us. We can practice acceptance in any situation where we feel resistance and negativity. An attitude of acceptance can transform our state of mind, and turn seemingly ‘negative’ situations to positive ones. A simple ‘four step’ process of acceptance. The journey of awakening - how ‘wakefulness’ is not an end point but a journey. How awakening is connected to
evolution: our own impulse to expand and intensify our awareness is an expression of the evolutionary impulse which has led life forms from simple single-celled amoeba to more and more complex and conscious forms, all the way to human beings. We don’t awaken for ourselves, but for life itself, expressing itself through us. We’re all part of a project which transcends us as individuals.
