"Steve will explore the powerful connection between spiritual transformation and psychological turmoil. He will describe some of his research
into ‘post-traumatic transformation,’ in situations such as bereavement, serious illness, addiction, imprisonment and intense stress and loss. He will explain the reasons why suffering can bring about spiritual awakening, and why some people are more open to transformation than others. Finally, he will suggest that there is an evolutionary aspect of the phenomenon, There appears to be a ‘latent higher self’ which is ready to emerge in many people, and which may be ready to emerge in our species
as a whole, leading to a new phase in the evolution of consciousness."
