Winter Turns to Spring
Now the future seems so bleak
that even optimists are filled with despair.
Even the most passionate activists
feel tired and listless,
with no hope to inspire them.
Now the world is turning
away from the light of reason
away from the warmth of compassion
towards a brutal winter
where nothing will grow
apart from cruelty and discord.
It seems there is nothing we can do
except to steal ourselves for hardship
and try to survive as best we can.
But now, as winter seems to be taking hold,
let’s withdraw for while, to replenish ourselves.
Let’s quietly concentrate our soul force
until we feel whole again.
Let’s cultivate the goodness inside us
until we feel pure again.
Let’s create new connections between us
until we become strong again.
Evil isn’t deeply rooted inside us -
it grows from the ego, not from our core.
No matter how much devastation it creates,
It’s always superficial, and temporary.
And so we will wait patiently
for evil’s icy grip to loosen.
And at the first sign of a thaw,
goodness will erupt again
from the deep ground of our being.
Great green waves of soul-force will flood the earth
and flush away this winter.
And the world will turn again
towards reason and compassion
and become luminous with love.
